About Ross Kestin
I first began enjoying photography in the 1960s, back in the days of Kodachrome, Extachrome, Tri-X, Plus-X, Ilford, Fuji, and all the other wonderful films we had back then. I shot portraits, headshots, model portfolios, little league teams, rock bands, babies, weddings, bar mitzvahs, and anything else that would pay me a few bucks. I then took a detour for the better part of four decades and became a TV director. Thirty five years and eighteen thousand broadcasts later, I retired and returned to my original passion of photography.
My wife Leslie also came from a strong photographic background. In fact, we met when I was dropping off some Tri-X at her family's custom black and white photo lab in West Los Angeles. You'll find some of her work in these pages as well.
I began using digital cameras in about 2000 when a two megapixel camera was considered cutting edge technology. I enjoyed the convenience of digital cameras, but never really liked the results of my efforts. Then a few years ago I discovered the techniques of HDR photography, and I realized what I had been missing. Finally, I could produce images with the rich quality I had loved with my Kodacrome and Ektachrome transparencies all those years ago. I felt like I had come home.
My wife and I now spend a lot of time travelling with our Chihuahua, our cameras, and our twenty eight foot travel trailer, Casa De Kestin. We're happy to share our work here. We hope you enjoy it.
